Joseph Meets Brothers sent by Jacob to Egypt

Genesis 42: Jacob sends his ten sons (all but the youngest, Benjamin) to Egypt to buy grain. Joseph recognizes them, but they do not recognize him. Joseph accuses them of being spies, demands that they bring their youngest brother, keeps Simeon and sends the other nine back with grain and the silver they had bought. Jacob does not want Benjamin to to to Egypt.

Genesis 43: When the grain runs out, Jacob finally agrees to let Benjamin go along to Egypt. Joseph sees Benjamin, returns Simeon, and feeds them, but does not reveal to them who he is.

Genesis 44: Joseph sends them home with lots of grain, but plants a silver cup in Benjamin's sack, so they are "caught" and must return to Joseph. Judah begs mercy and asks to stay as Joseph's slave in place of Benjamin.

Genesis 45: Joseph finally reveals his identity to his brothers, explains God's hand in using Joseph to save lives. Joseph instructs them to return to Canaan and bring Jacob with all their family to Egypt for the remainder of the famine. Jacob hears the story and is convinced Joseph is alive.

Genesis 46: Jacob and his family move to Egypt with God's blessing. List of Jacob's sons and grandsons. Joseph meets Jacob and instructs his family to tell Pharaoh that they are shepherds.

Jealous brothers turn on Joseph

"I wish someone would rob him of that fancy robe of his and maybe kill him while they did it."
"Why wish? We could make it happen."
"Kill our own brother? No way," Reuben protested.
"Half brother," Simeon reminded him.
"Maybe we could half kill him," Reuben suggested. "We could dump him in that well and let great grampa Abraham's god finish him off."
"Let's do it," and they did. When Joseph arrived they stripped him of his robe and dumped him in the well. They left and tried to forget he was there.
"Maybe we can be rid of Joseph and profit too. We can sell him to those traders."

They fetched Joseph out of the well and sold him to the Midianite traders for 20 shekels of silver.

Ash Wednesday, Lent Begins -- By Aaron Hooper

Talked about people who do nice things but don't brag about what they've done.
Talked about Ash Wednesday, and some things that people were going to give up. Jackson said soda, Rachel said no more than 30 minutes of T.V., Julia said she's going to try to say the word "but" less often, and Brooke give up Instant Mssngr...and there were more.
Also we talked about how Jesus travelled from Nazareth to get baptized by John the Baptist. John the Baptist died at the hands of Herod who had his head brought to him on a platter. It was later the followers of Jesus realized that it was Jesus and not John the Baptist who was really the Messiah.
Mardi Gras beads were handed out for fun.THE NEW CONTEST IS FIND JAMES, JACKSON, and THOMAS IN THE COOKIES--WHAT COOKIE ARE THEY ON?
Cookies and purple milk were served for a great snack. See if you can find James, Jackson, and Thomas in the Mardi Gras Cookie picture!.

This week we talked about Lent,Ash Wednesday,Good Friday, and Palm Sunday. When Jesus came to free the people from Rome, the people put palms on the ground for Jesus to ride his burrow on. Ash Wednesday is the starting point of Lent which lasts 40 days. During Lent you are supposed to give up something that is important to you. We also talked about the different kind of religions there are.

Jan. 19, 2004...Pam and Bill Reporting

I think I counted 18 wild eyed 10 & 11 yr olds Wednesday evening, so full of energy, one can't be around them long without smiling to oneself. We followed Abraham and Sarah, selecting a wife, Rebecca, for Isaac, and Abraham's death.

We also read a very short story from what I guess you'd call a daily devotional. On a single small page it tied a couple of verses from Mark, a current anecdote of a frightened little girl, and a Hindu proverb together. The message was fear and being comforted, of being the comforted and offering comfort to others. Everyone considered... at what point will they... or have they... been the ones who offer a reassuring word.. a helping hand... a kindness.

Lance brought some awesome cookies tonight.
